Hey!
Welcome to my Substack, I’m so glad you’re here - a place where I will share my thoughts and experiences on and off the yoga mat. I hope to inspire, uplift and ignite within you the drive to break free of the cookie-cutter mould and design a practice that truly serves you.
Welcome to Your Yoga
Born partly out of my love for yoga and partly out of my frustration with the yoga world in general and how the practice is often portrayed on social media and in studios across the world as something that only super flexible people are any good at. Layer on top of that the one size fits all mindset that permeates so many group classes out there, I just had to find a place to debunk all of that.
I’ll let you in on a secret - there’s no such thing as being good at yoga. And just because someone can do a fancy pose doesn’t mean they are any better than you.
I want to shout from the rooftops that yoga really can be for everyone regardless of age, background and health status. This Substack is my rooftop.
It’s all about YOU!
I’ve called this page Your Yoga. Because that’s what it’s all about.
This is yoga that meets you where you are - not where someone told you you should be.
It’s about you and how you choose to engage with what’s on offer here. I’m a huge fan of the famous quote by Bruce Lee - “Absorb what is useful, discard what is useless, and add what is uniquely your own.”
Or as I like to re-phrase it…
Take what makes sense, leave what doesn’t, and figure out what works for you.
Do any of these resonate?
You wonder why when you sit cross legged on your mat and your knees are way up by your ears when the person next to you’s knees are almost on the floor?
You’ve been told that focusing on your breath is yoga but doing this makes you feel more anxious, you worry that if you don’t focus on your breath you’re not practicing yoga, and this makes you feel more anxious.
You’re injured and you still want to practice. You know yoga is more than physical as every yoga teacher says this but you need someone to show you how.
Over the coming months, this Substack will answer these queries and more, helping you on the path to a practice that nourishes, sustains and supports you in whatever unfolds on your path.
