I’ll let you in on an industry secret. When us yoga teachers learn to teach, we are like little sponges. We soak up everything we are told by our teachers and many of us have a tendency to parrot back what we’ve heard in our classes and trainings as fact without much thought or independent research. This is without malice - we are doing our best and eager to share all that we have learnt and all that has helped us personally.
I’m telling you this as a kind of confession, because everything you’re about to read below, I, at some point during my teaching years have spouted as gospel.
But here’s the thing…
Yoga is such a huge topic - it seems daft even referring to it as a topic! But you get what I mean. It would probably take lifetimes to learn, unlearn and relearn all that yoga has to teach. So if you’ve been with me since the early days and have heard some of what is about to follow leave my lips, know that I was doing my best with the information I had at the time. We live and learn, and evolve and grow. The important thing I think is to stay open and curious and willing to change your mind when presented with new information.
